To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Mercedes Jimenez, please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
Born in Boyaca, Colombia, Mercedes was one of eight siblings. In her youth she loved acting and playing basketball. She married Rafael Corredor Jimenez in 1954, and raised four daughters. A dedicated, loving mother and grandmother, she supported her family while working as a seamstress and designer. Her kindness was unlimited; she readily helped many others throughout her life.
In the early sixties the family immigrated from Bogota to the United States, and settled in Jackson Heights. She dedicated her life to supporting her daughters in their education and career goals, and instilled in them the value of helping others.
A devout Catholic, she was a humble, loving, caring person who enjoyed music, cooking, dancing, travel, and socializing with friends and family.
Mercedes is survived by daughters Martha, Yolanda, Julia Elizabeth, Claudia; grandchildren Alejandra, John and Patrick; and sons-in-law Kenneth and John. She has joined her infant daughter Fabiolita and siblings in heaven.
Mercedes will live in our hearts forever.
