Simon Funtleyder, 87, of Queens Village, NY passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 after a short illness at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in South Richmond Hill, NY. Simon is survived by his Florida cousins and Cora Walker’s children. He was pre-deceased by both of his parents, Cora Walker & Deborah, his longtime girlfriend.

Simon was born October 1, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to Ruth Frank and Louis Funtleyder. During the birthing process Simon’s brain was damaged. The result was that Simon was left mildly mentally incapacitated and subject to seizures. Despite such a challenging beginning, Simon went on to live a long, happy and semi-Independent life. Simon was a huge fan of baseball, especially the Yankees. Simon always carried a pocket radio with him so he could listen to the news, weather and of course baseball. Simon was fiercely independent in spirit and his own advocate up until his death.
Visitation & a Going Home Service was held at Leo F. Kearns Funeral Home, 61-40 Woodhaven Blvd, Rego Park, NY from 10 am to 12 pm on Thursday, June 17, 2021.
Simon will be laid to rest at Beth El Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
