We lost somebody who is going to be missed dearly for the rest of our lives. Ylli Agolli was a gentleman, academic in exercise science, former athlete and a wrestling coach. He was born in Tirana, Albania in 1934. His father was a businessman and his mother was a beloved caring mother of 3 boys. Grandpa was the youngest.
Ylli Agolli’s youngest days were adventurous and filled with love from his immediate family. Rumor has it he was spoiled the most out of the 3 brothers. He eventually started his own family – marrying Fatbardha Agolli. Together they raised three children (Alma, Sonia, Blendi).
With his kids, Ylli was an amazing father. Every Sunday he would take his kids to the puppet show, take pictures, and have dessert. He really enjoyed their company. Outside of fatherhood, he was an Exercise Science Professor in the Wrestling Department at University. In addition, he was a wrestling coach for two teams that competed in national and international matches. He was very passionate about his job. He devoted his life to training his athletes with dignity and enthusiasm. They call him his second family, and they express their condolences from Albania.
Grandpa loved to travel, cherished moments with friends and family, and appreciated good food. Even in his old age, he exercised every morning, rode his bike or went for a walk and took as many pictures as he could to remember the good days. He will be remembered for his impact on his athletes, friends and family back home, and most importantly his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was a good-natured man, kind in spirit, and loving with a good sense of humor. Pieces of him remain within all of us even after his passing.
He lived a fulfilling life and this speech is still not comprehensive of all the great things there is to say about him. He will be missed dearly from all the members of his family in America and in Albania. His legacy will go on. We love you and we miss you Gjyshi.
