Obituary

David Hoyt Kovach died on Wednesday October 2nd. He is survived by his longtime partner Jennifer Finck. Loving father to Paul (Jenny) and Jacqueline. Grandfather to Mackenzie and Kaitlyn. Loved brother of Lynn (Michael) Norton and uncle of Jonathan. David worked for Olympus America for over 40years. He had the personality to make any situation funnier and more lighthearted, nothing was taken too seriously. He was a great friend to many. His love for Starbucks and Hawaiian shirts will live on. So will all of our memories of him.

I am terribly sad to hear of David's passing.
It was 1976 or 1977 when I first began working at Olympus MID, I stayed with the company for ten years.
We moved our office from WLA to Santa Monica, CA, where I became the Branch Manager.
I had the pleasure of working with many wonderful people in the medical division, both in New York, and other branches,
David was one of those special people, one that I will never forget. We hadn't spoken in a long while, but like great friends
who you haven't seen in many years, we always picked up where our last conversation left off. Smart, caring, compassionate and genuine, a true friend who I will miss terribly. To the family, I wish you memories that ease your loss, and love that heals your sadness. - Carol Gessin-Simon

I’ve been thinking about Dave a lot since I heard the very sad news of his passing. Dave was a very big part of our lives at Olympus. We met in 1979. He was a branch manager at the age of 27! I was 25. Most of the people we worked with and for were in their 20s and 30s. This extremely young group of people made the Olympus Medical Instrument Division into the most powerful and successful endoscopy company in the USA. All of us have the wonderful memories of Dave. He was smart, charming, helpful, funny, innovative, caring, supportive, creative, and fun. The list of superlatives goes on and on. Dave always seemed to get the job done, he went the extra mile, and it wasn’t easy growing at the speed that Olympus experienced. We all loved working at Olympus during these early years, we had a great group of people in that Lake Success building, the American headquarters of Olympus. When I sat in his office, David always talked about his children Paul and Jacqueline. He shared great stories about his mom & dad and his sister Lynn. He loved all of you so much. I’m sad David didn’t have more time to spent with his family and friends. He talked about finally retiring, 40+ years at Olympus. It never happened. I can honestly say I loved Dave and will always remember him very fondly. He will be dearly missed.

Dave was a close friend in High School. However we first met as young children because Daves's father was our family doctor. At college in our fraternity when pledging he was my big brother. Shock and sadness are just two emotions that arise from this sad news. I will always remember the many fun and happy times I had with Dave plus the comradery he helped to foster at TKE at NYIT.

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Dave and his extended family.

Dave and I exchanged emails a week or so ago and made plans to talk on the phone the following week. He couldn’t talk right then because he was on his way to Citifield. That brought back memories of the multiple bets (and arguments) we had in the past over Mets/Cubs and Jets/Bears games. I am kicking myself now for not calling him back the very next day. Dave and I met and became friends at Olympus in 1979. During the 40 years since, we shared many good times together and supported each other through a few rough spots. All I can say now is… REST IN PEACE, MY FRIEND, REST IN PEACE.
